Clubs New Zealand Response to the white paper - ending community sector dependance on pokie funding
24 June 2020
Last week we were made aware of a White Paper produced by the Problem Gambling Foundation, Hāpai Te Hauora and the Salvation Army titled ending community sector dependence on pokie funding that was distributed to Councillors across New Zealand.
While Clubs New Zealand agrees that community funding models should be regularly reviewed to ensure that they are accessible, sustainable, and meet the needs of the community,we felt it was important to respond to the white paper to clarify some points and provide important information that was omitted regarding clubs.
We emailed all clubs with gaming machines on Friday last week asking for information and we would like to thank each club that responded and allowed us to paint a compelling picture of the contribution made by clubs to the community every year.
We have completed the response which has been sent to DIA senior staff, Internal Affairs Minister The Hon Tracey Martin and every councillor in New Zealand.
A copy of the white paper along with Clubs New Zealand's response can be downloaded using the links below;
