MEDIA RELEASE: Minimum Wage Increases Deal Another Blow
12 February 2022
Yesterday’s announcement that the minimum wage will increase by 6% to $21.20 in April is just another blow for clubs, says Clubs New Zealand.
“We have all been struggling under the incredibly restrictive Alert Level System and now Covid Protection Framework in excess of two years and the stark reality is that the reserves are empty”, says Chief Executive Larry Graham.
“There is nothing left to fund these increases.”
Sports and Activities at the Red Setting

Clubs New Zealand continues to share the frustrations of Clubs and Members over the Red Setting rules, particularly in relation to the rules around sports and other activities.
We are fielding a lot of enquiries from clubs and an increasing number of enquiries from club members. We are into the third year of this and we understand it, people just want to do what they love.
Three Phase Approach to Omicron

On Wednesday the 26th of January the Government set out its three phase plan for dealing with the Omicron Variant. Now that Omicron is in the community there is an expectation that case numbers will surge, so this three phase plan sets out what changes will be introduced to manage the outbreak depending on where we are in the outbreak and the number of cases within the community.
Sports Update in response to Omicron

We are once again devastated to be announcing the cancellation and/or postponement of several Clubs New Zealand Sports Tournaments.
We are in communication with host clubs and the convenors of upcoming tournaments to work through the various options and make decisions that are in best interests of the club and the participants. These decisions are not easy to make, and we know that the host clubs and convenors have poured hours into preparing for the tournaments.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us at Trentham Race Course on Saturday 22nd January for the Clubs New Zealand Family Race Day.
It was fantastic to see so many families out enjoying the beautiful Wellington weather. The Clubs New Zealand 18+ Marquee was also a hit and we loved hosting club members for the day.
Cancellation of the Clubs New Zealand 2022 Conference, AGM & EXPO

It is with reluctance that the Board of Clubs New Zealand, National Office Team and Club Hastings have made the decision to cancel the Clubs New Zealand 2022 Conference, AGM and EXPO.
This is the third time that the Hastings event has been cancelled and we are all incredibly disappointed. It is impossible for Clubs New Zealand to run this event at the Red setting and with no clear indication from the Government on when we will move back to Orange, it was necessary to make this decision sooner rather than later.
